Can I upgrade my iPhone if it's jailbroken?

How can I upgrade my jailbroken iPhone 3GS version 4.3.3 to jailbroken 5.0.1?

  • If I upgrade through iTunes and then jailbreak again, iTunes is forcing me to go to version 5.1.

  • Answer:

Sorry, but you must upgrade iTunes and upgrade to 5.1. You missed the 5.0.1 window. Because you're running such an old firmware, SSH Blobs might still be useful for you. Perhaps you can try jailbreaking as is, saving your blobs on Cydia, and then forcing the iOS 5.0.1 upgrade? Highly doubt this will work though.

You can only upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 if you have SHSH blobs saved for 5.0.1, but you may actually have them since Cydia tries to automatically save any available SHSH blobs from Apple for your device when it can. Check the top of the Cydia homepage on your device - see if it lists 5.0.1 in the SHSH list. If you have SHSH blobs saved, you can stitch the blobs into custom firmware with redsn0w and use that to restore.
