What Is The Alexa Rank?

What are the criteria which Alexa takes into consideration while calculating a Website's Rank?

• I have two websites, the one with half the traffic has a better rank as compared to the one with higher traffic nearly 3 - 4 times.

  From Alexa's website: Alexa computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until, finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service. In my opinion, Alexa rankings aren't nearly as dependent upon data collected from the Alexa toolbar as they once were...but some of the folks trolling the affiliate and black-hat SEO forums (which I only read for fun) claim that downloading the toolbar and visiting your own sites constantly can inflate your Alexa ranking. It's wayyyyy better.
