What are the opportunities for an MBA abroad preferably in the US?

What are some exit opportunities for post-MBA consultants?

  • If you get an MBA and then become a management consultant for 2-3 years, what are some possible exit opportunities?

  • Answer:

It's now been four years since I graduated from , and I've seen many of my classmates who went into consulting exit into a wide range of positions over a diverse set of companies. One of the cool benefits offered at many of the top firms is the opportunity to declare that you are going into job search mode, at which point the firm gives you several months (based on seniority) to look for opportunities while still getting paid full salary. I've also heard of having the choice of double the amount of transition period and receiving half-pay. Additionally consulting firms will typically have an internal/alumni job board where companies can post positions for people with consulting backgrounds. Exit opportunities likely will be dependent on the type of projects that you do, as it's reasonably common for consultants to join a client full-time. From the client perspective: what better way to evaluate someone than watching them work on a project and interact with your team for several months. That said, there are a ton of companies out there that have former consultants running the show, who are looking to hire people with a blue chip consulting background, since they know what types of strategic, analytical, and project management capabilities consulting alums are likely to have. I have ex-consultant classmates who have gone on to be assistant-to-CEO, product management, corporate strategy, marketing, business development and more positions across large and small companies. Bottom line is that you will have a great skill set after 2-3 years of consulting at the post-MBA level, and there should be a ton of exit opportunities available.

In my experience, ex-consultants with an MBA typically move to 3 types of roles: Strategy role in a large company: Many large companies have internal strategy/consulting/corporate development departments. These roles fit really well someone with a consulting background, and provide a great entry point for joining a large company Line role in a medium or large company: The most common opportunities tend to be roles in Marketing or Finance Roles in Private Equity: Many private equity firms hire ex-consultants to join their Investment or Operations teams Most ex-consultants tend to join Fortune 1,000 companies and/or larger technology companies http://TheInsiderList.com is a free weekly email with a great selection of hand-picked jobs for professionals with MBAs or management consulting experience
