I got my engineering degree in 2007 ,worked in software company for almost 2 years and then i quit the job and tried my hand at competitive exams ,i couldn make it.Now i want to pursue my masters in US ,will gap in my education affect visa chances?

Try using the recession excuse. During 2009 and a bit after again, the world's economy tanked. Everyone is aware of this and I'm sure quite a few people would be sympathetic to those conditions. All the best for your visa!
