How do I delete a LinkedIn profile?

LinkedIn Profiles: If I delete a position, do I lose the recommendations associated with that position?

  • Within the experience section of my profile I have added a couple of voluntary roles which I do, as well as paid roles.  LinkedIn have now added a section for 'volunteering & interest' which I want to make use of (it'd be more logical to add the voluntary roles in here).  However, I have a number of recommendations relating to the voluntary roles which I don't want to lose. Is there a way of either moving your experience to a different section, or does anyone know if you can delete positions and not lose the recommendation?

  • Answer:

If you delete a postion, the recommendations attached to it become "unassigned", but you can still find them at Profile-->Recommendations, and attach them to other positions if you want.

Just to piggyback on my friend Dan Sherman's comment: The position associated with that recommendation was removed or changed becomes an unassigned recommendation. If a recommendation becomes unassigned, you can reassign it to an existing position and make it visible on your profile once again: Move your cursor over your photo in the top right of your homepage and select Privacy & Settings. You may be prompted to sign in. Under the Helpful Links section, select Manage your recommendations. You'll see the unassigned recommendation listed under the section, You deleted the position these Recommendations were associated with. Click Reassign next to the recommendation. Choose the position you'd like to assign it to, and then click Apply. The recommendation will then display on your profile.

As far as I know, recommendations are tied to certain jobs; erase a job, and there is no place for that recommendation to be associate with; you might: reprint the recommendations as documents and post them to your profile using http://box.net; or ask the people to resend them to another job.

and got it for you. No, recommendations that lose a deleted position become unassigned and will display again when you assign them to another currently presented position.I hope this is helpful.Follow me on http://www.linkedin.com/in/tlburriss for more LinkedIn best practices and ideas.
