What is the best place to look for a product manager job at a startup in Silicon Valley?

Answer:
Some of the job boards mentioned are fine. Applying to jobs via job boards is fairly passive, here is another way: Find a product area you are passionate about e.g. gaming products, health, social financing/lending, web analytics etc. Build a set of thoughtful opinions about this area and express them in a blog, on LinkedIn Groups, here on Quora, etc. Find the entrepreneurs and VCs, etc. that are building/backing companies around this product area and share your thoughts with them and tell them you are looking for a PM role. This works -- in fact I got my first job out of college from Tom Siebel using this basic method.

Echoing a related post or mine, the best "place" to find PM jobs is over coffee or breakfast with other PMs / product exec. Get out from behind the keyboard, talk with folks at your target companies (segments), and find out what's real. Use LinkedIn to find friends-of-friends who can help. Unescorted inbound resumes are not the ideal approach. Given that, one additional job board is at http://SVPMA.org. Tight focus on PM and PMM slots.

In addition to VentureLoop and WhiteTruffle that Jesse Forest suggested, I'd also using the following to identify ideal startups and/or PM jobs: Crunchbase (http://Crunchbase.com) AngelList (http://Angel.co) Portfolio companies of top tier VC firms Even if a given source doesn't have specific PM jobs listed, if you see a company post Series A and don't see any key product hires, there may be an opportunity to help them out with product and show them why they need you to be a PM there full time. Note: If you are looking for a Product Management job, I teach a Udemy course https://www.udemy.com/how-to-get-a-job-in-product-management/ that may be relevant for you.

Build your list of Silicon Valley based companies from here: http://crunchbase.com/ http://angel.co/ Here: LinkedIn Your own ideas (should be lots here) Meet people BECOME A MAN OF VALUE Become an influencer on an area of interest in some kind of small way and amass: A twitter/instagram/linkedin/quora/blog/otherwise following Then approach companies with some useful suggestions that would immediately improve their business Use this final point as your segue to lots of PRODUCTIVE F2F meetings rather than a 'please can you help me? meeting :)Hope this helps :)

VentureLoop - http://ventureloop.com There are a ton of PM postings on here. I like that you can see what VC is backing the hiring company, amongst other things. White Truffle - http://whitetruffle.com Although many postings are dev related, they match you to stealths, startups, etc based on your work history & skills.

The Silicon Valley Product Group mailing list regularly posts product management positions at valley startups and it's also full of great articles. I highly recommend the mailing list for startup product managers anywhere just for the articles, it'll help you stay abreast of thinking in SV.
