Remove Negative Publicity Online: How Difficult Is It?

How can I remove negative reviews or listings on Yelp?

  • I will buy existing business,  but found out Yelp has many negative review of this business,  that is not true at all,  apparantly these negative reviews are from competitors. I email Yelp to remove it, but they reject,  that is disgusting,  I will be the new owner of this business,  why should I take  these garbage? Can you help to remove negative review or remove the business listing completely?

  • Answer:

Some notes on this: 1) If you are the new owner, and you're unhappy with the reviews, you should just mark the business as closed and open a new listing. Your argument for this is new ownership. 2) Of course they aren't going to remove it, why would they believe you? Seriously, do you think if they believed every business owner that came in and said that, that there would be ANY negative reviews on the site??? If there weren't any, consumers wouldn't find it useful, and they wouldn't come to the site, and it would be irrelevant to you what happens with the reviews because there wouldn't be anyone reading them, making a decision to SPEND MONEY WITH YOU. 3) There is no way to just go and remove a review simply because it is negative. Yelp is actually pretty upstanding about not messing with user generated content unless there is a clear and provable conflict of interest or violation of the review guidelines.

The solution to pollution is dilution. If you improve your Google Places listing, improve your overall website SEO, and encourage more positive reviews on Yelp, this old review will not be noticed.

Fortunately, you have a very good Google rating. About the only thing you can do is to fill the SERP page with higher ranking entries. A bunch of the pages on your site rank for your name, so that helps limit the number of competing pages that Google shows. The Yelp entry is ranking because Yelp has so many backlinks to the site. But you're in a number of directories and you have two YouTube videos which also have a bunch of backlinks to their sites. So they should be easy to bump up. So there are two practical things to do: 1. Get LEGITIMATE additional reviews on yelp to push down the negative one and raise your average score. Talk to customers who like you and ask them to post. But know what you're doing and don't buy reviews. That will come back to bite you. And don't hire a firm to enter higher reviews. If they all come from the same computer (IP), you'll get nabbed. 2. Get an SEO firm to create decent backlinks to the directories and youtube videos. The Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook entries will be the easiest to boost since they have the most backlinks to their sites. They will compete better. When you do this, do it legitimately. Find blogs to comment on, and mention (and backlink to) your videos and other sites. Give something away and post the giveaway to your facebook account so people want to backlink to it and the backlinks will raise your Facebook entries. That should get you going. Good luck

Well you can't. But you can post a decent response on that review and it'll make sure people will get your side of story.

Yelp's strong suit is in the food industry. If this is your business, the reviews are probably overall accurate. Especially if there are a lot of them. If your not in the food industry, my experience is NO ONE looks at Yelp. I tried advertising my antiques business on Yelp because the salesman said 1300 people were looking for antiques a month on yelp. From this experience I've been able to look behind the curtain. It's been a month and a half and I've had one verifiable click. I do not worry about yelper's negative reviews. Needless to say, I would not talk to a Yelp salesperson unless you are in the food industry.

False reviews: Flag it and provide clear, explicit details/evidence of why it is false. If Yelp deems the review violated TOS, it will be removed. Negative reviews: Provide better products/service and customer service to diminish the effect of said negative reviews. Best way to provide better context is to provide a copy of the review.

Yelp! is a cursing and a blessing for business owners period. The curse begins with the negative reviews that can keep owners up at night, haunting the restaurant’s Yelp! page for Internet eternity. The blessing comes from being able to accumulate real time quality control measures. Take the negative reviews and be sure no one will ever have those problems again. Be quick to react and correct specific mistakes.   Another positive feature to recognize from Yelp! is the level of detail that a business profile can list: parking, services, atmosphere, disability accessibility, price range, etc. A small portion of your business' marketing plan is taken care because your target market actually searches for you instead. The Internet & online review sites are transforming every industry they touch therefore avoiding Yelp! may not be the correct answer. In order for Yelp to remove a review, it must violate TOS or Content Guidelines. The only way to remove your listing is to change your address and pay for an upgraded profile; either that or go out of business. You can read more here: http://futuresolutionsmedia.com/how-to-remove-bad-reviews.html

You can opt for proactive ORM for your company name and get the negative link moved to 3rd or the 4th page of google search results.

I must say that your brand is having a very good web presence. I have checked it with keyword "fiorisimo" and it is showing all the positive results. On yelp also, there are three reviews and all three are positive. I think negative review has got removed by Yelp.
