The barriers include language and cultural preferences - the problem is not talent, because there are great Kpop artists who are great musically and have the intelligence, appropriately respectful attitude, personality, and charisma to make it in entertainment. I think the potential needs to include the ability to enunciate for English language in singing, and the ability to cross the spoken language barrier.  The US in terms of pop music is not very welcoming to things not in English.  While Kpop is gaining popularity and there are even concerts like SM Town in NYC and LA, and KCon drew great response, it's not as if Korean music videos are going to surpass those in English on the charts.  Korea is a small foreign country.  While due to the growing Hispanic population we do see more Mexican American artists singing in Spanish, even when they don't speak it, it remains to be seen if Kpop or other Asian pop music will really cross over. If we are talking about English language songs, then artists who grew up speaking English or have a penchant for clear English pronunciation and are able to communicate reasonably, will have an advantage.  Given this, I would say that groups with a spokesperson who is fluent enough will be able to manage, as a similar setup is in place for Mandarin speaking artists in Kpop groups, i.e. Super Junior M's Zhou Mi and Henry, f(x)'s Victoria.  In each group, someone better in English tends to help speak more during concerts and interviews, i.e. Super Junior's Siwon, SHINee's Key, f(x)'s Amber.  Solo artists have responsibility to do it all, so someone like Ailee has some chance here, due to her English.  Henry is from Canada.  Even childhood experience with the language can help with pronunciation and some natural language skill, i.e. Aaron Yan (defunct Taiwan pop group Fahrenheit). Those with super music chops may also have a shot if their English could get up to par, but for an older audience, i.e. Park Hyo Shin, Super Junior's Kyuhyun.  I have heard some singers doing more foreign language songs but the accent is distinct, diction may be a problem.  SHINee's Onew and EXO's D.O. also have better pronunciation than some.  If as a group, as a whole, they can pull it off, it comes down to opportunity in the US market and realistic expectations for success.

CL is  supposed to be making a debut into the U.S. music market sometime this year or the next. To be honest, I think she'd be the one with the most potential as of right now, and as a group 2ne1 would have the most potential... Big Bang as well as if they weren't already pretty popular stateside. I'm not a YGent stanner/fangirl I've just done a lot of research (plus I'm indifferent to G-dragon)... and those two groups happen to show the most potential for cross over. Also since I'm seeing a really different trend in hip hop recently, a good amount of Asian/ Asian American rappers/hiphopers have been a bit more vocal in the sphere of hiphop and ever since the artist Keith Ape released his song It G Ma people haven't shut up. So as far as a Asian artist becoming popular and making it in the U.S.... I think it'll happen sooner than later... wait.. didn't Psy already make an impression? I know some US media reacted in a very racist way toward him and also saying his song is a "one hit wonder" from the beginning of it's popularity wave but I think CL would probably get very popular here. She's bilingual, can rap in both Korean and English, as well as compose raps in either language and is well versed in the cultural differences and has some really good connections, collaborated with http://Will.I.Am and Diplo as well and is entering under Scooter Braun I think. So she's suited up for the cross-over it's just how is the U.S. going to receive it cause I've watched SNSD on Letterman try to crossover, Rain, Se7en, and Boa too. Edit: CL has released the proposed video that's supposed to be for her U. S. crossover debut, "Hello B*tches" is the title, it's also has a lot of problems but I've come to expect that from and disdain YG Entertainment for.

None, as you must understand it is not the artists themselves but the labels that support them. Many of the record labels are deeply racist with their selection process only allowing asians to apply. Korean media for a time disallowed Chinese artists to perform on stage and have banned Japanese in songs look at Crayon by G dragon. Other cases have included Black face , artists saying 'Alicia Keys is pretty for a Black person' and artists when asked about American especially African -Americans acting out gang signs. ·      Taeyeon’s “for a black person she’s really pretty” comment about Alicia Keys Hoya of INFINITE used to dance prior to debut under the name “BK” which stood for “Black Korean” N of Vixx is often the butt of jokes from his other group members based on his skin tone Chanyeol and Baekhyun of Exo have been known to make comments on Kai’s skin colour The Kikwang watermelon incident Now that is not too bad for other artists on a label if the labels reprimanded them or sacked them but they do not. Asians in America make a small minority so being friendly to other races is key. Another issue is a labels marketing strategy or lack of they do not market to the core demographic by changing an artists sound instead trying to compete with established acts. Cl will most likely not make it as the US already has female rappers. 2ne1 as a whole probably would as the US lacks a girl group with a rapper and girlbands are BIG currently and limit risk especially with 360 contracts.

Wondergirls. They are a huge success already with a hit song called "Like Money" with Akon that already plays on the radio in the US. The song is in English in contrast to PSY's "Gangnam Style". They are currently co managed by Jonas Group as well as CAA. CAA is a leading talent management group that represents huge stars and athletes ranging from Derek Jeter to Gweneth Paltrow.

I think 2NE1 does. Their style of music is most similar to the music that is popular in the U.S. Big Bang, too. Probably most YG Artists, due to their style of music.
