What faculty to chose between electrical engineering and computer science?

Who are some of the best faculty for Computer Science at Indian universities?

  • Answer:

Prof. Kannan Srinathan, Center for Security, Theory and Algorithmic Research (C-STAR), IIIT Hyderabad This is one professor who can change your whole perspective of looking at problems, be it in computer science or in any other aspects of life. His primary area of research is Information Securiy and Cryptography. But, personally I have never seen a better person to study mathematics from. He taught us courses like Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Formal Methods, that are the courses that require a really clear understanding of the basic concepts. He is a PhD from IIT Madras and lives a simple religious life. I have seen and heard about several students, who have observed a large change in their thinking after talking to Kannan sir. For me, he is definitely a professor you don't want to miss at IIIT Hyderabad.

Dr. Kannan Karthik , Dept of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati. He regularly teaches courses like " Digital Communications " and "Multimedia Security" . He is PhD from University of Toronto. He makes complicated mathematical derivations look very simple and it was an incredible learning experience from his course. He is simply a genius and he may be one of the best professors in the world in above topics.

People forgot to mention Naveen Garg, IIT Delhi. I attended few classes of Data Structure. The way he explains the complex topics like Graphs is awesome.

Ritesh Pandey

Prof Rajaram  - IIT Kharagpur. I am not sure if he is still working in Kharagpur but he used to be one of the best professors that I had the pleasure to take Computer science courses under him. I attended the following two courses in his class. Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms C Programming Language Surprisingly, he is from Mechanical Engineering Dept and not from Computer Science Dept.

CSE @ IIT Madras: Every professor in the dept. of CSE is the best professor. All  professors are experts in their area of research. It is not that easy to become a professor in the dept. of CSE. Since the question is asked 'some' of the best , I am writing about some of professors with whom I have done the courses !Prof. CPR: He is the first best teacher I have seen in IITM. He teaches Algorithm course with so much enthusiasm. The way of explanation is awesome. I loved all his lectures in Adv. DS course. He keeps always smile on his face. Prof. Ravindran: One of the most famous professor in the insti for his course 'Introduction to ML'. Though I have not done this course. I have got an opportunity do his Data Mining course (currently he is not teaching this course). He covers so many good and adv.topics in the ML and his assignments good. He conducts a prediction competition in ML course to get feel of small real world problem solving. He is a very good researcher in the area of ML(currently in Deep Learning and Reinforcement learning). Prof. CC: One of the best teacher in the dept. of CSE. He follows the simple and effective principle SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD (which is written on the white board in his office!) . I think everybody who sits in his classes will learn something before they leave the class. He is so punctual to the class and expects students to be on time. In one class of introduction to research, he talked about the value of time as follows: If student comes 5 mins late to the class, then it is only a waste of 5 mins, but if professor comes 5 mins late it is a waste of 50 mins (assume there are 10 students). He teaches subjects: Kernel Methods of Pattern Analysis (sort of Adv. ML!) , Computer Architecture (PG level).
