how can I integrate slim framework in cakephp?

Which PHP Framework is best: CakePHP / Zend Framework / CodeIgniter / Kohana / Symfony / Social Engine?

  • Having recognized the benefits of using a framework versus the native/free-flow PHP, I am struggling to determine which PHP Framework to choose from. Any insights/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Answer:

CodeIgniter for sure. Why? easy to understand, easy to implement, robust structure and complete documentation.

Social Engine isn't really a PHP framework. It's a commercial product to develop sites with social networking features. Symfony 2 is highly recommended as a modern PHP framework. You might also take a look at Laravel (http://www.laravel.com). It has excellent tutorials and documentation, is fast and is very beginner friendly.

I've tried using a few MVC PHP frameworks and I have to say that CodeIgniter offers exactly what I want. It's not too strict and doesn't constrain you like I found CakePHP to do (requiring models, etc). The documentation is great and it fits in with my coding style.

Several days ago I`ve found one quite interesting post about frameworks here in Qoura: I know that it depends on your taste but I also prefer Yii and advise you to try. It`s simply clear and reliable - that is the most important.

hmm, it is really a tricky one to answer as mostly the answers you get is based on a personal touch with each of these. I have pretty seen CakePHP , Zend and lately I have seen Kohana in action, though i haven't worked with it yet. I would say, chose a framework that has a strong community, learner books and rich documentation. CakePHP has this element. CodeIgniter is good too as I have seen some good optimal apps powered by CodeIgniter. Kohana is woithout doubt futuristic  PHP IMO and indeed powerful but the documentation and introductory books are just not there. hence it is frustrating not having a book and having to google every damn thing. :). Goodluck with these.

Before adopting my first framework (considering not only php ones) I studied a bunch of reviews, comparisons, etc, and finally adopted Cake, for its basic hosting compatibility, documentation and community. It's always a good thing having lots of people working with your same tool, because it's easier to find solutions to your problems. But I'm ready to adopt other first class frameworks as soon as things get more demanding.
