How do you 'check-in' somewhere on Facebook?

What is the easiest way to go about creating QR codes for Facebook checkin?

  • I know I can use QR codes for sending them to a url but is there a facebook checkin link?

  • Answer:

Katherine, I'm trying to do exactly that. My QR code takes you to the website and requires you to check in, which most people won't do. (We're all lazy.) How do I take the QR code directly to a FB page within the FB app, where they'll already be signed in?

If you are looking to create a QR Code, which when scanned will open the Facebook app then follow the steps given below. It is slightly technical but very easy. 1. Figure out your Facebook Page ID a. Go to your Facebook Page b. In the address bar, substitute 'www' by 'graph' so that the URL will look like http://graph.facebook.com/<facebook_page_name> For example, for my Facebook Page, the URL will look like: http://graph.facebook.com/scanovatech c. A page will open and the ID will be written on the first line. Copy it and keep it handy. 2. Create a App URL Write this URL: fb://profile/facebook_id_from_step_1 It should look something like "fb://profile/284859274992082" 3. Create a Text QR Code a. Go to a QR Code Generator (such as http://scanova.io/design-qr-code-generator.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova) and enter this URL from step 2 into a Text QR Code (a QR Code that contains simple text as content). That's it. Now whenever someone scans this QR Code, the page will open directly in the App rather than a browser. Try it. Note that this QR Code was created using the http://scanova.io/design-qr-code-generator.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova. [Full Disclosure: I am a cofounder of Scanova]. Hope this was helpful.

Are you looking to the QR code link to actually open the Facebook application on a mobile phone? I asked one of our engineers how to do this once. I think it can be done, but it's somewhat complex. And keep in mind: the URL/code will be VERY long, so before you ultimately create the code you'd want to shorten the URL first. I am curious about this myself so I can ask around our office some more if someone else doesn't answer.
