Why hasn't the Indian government been able to trace, stop and take action against groups threatening North-East Indians in Bangalore?
-
Personally I would expect that government would unleash police and intelligence agencies against elements who are threatening; open police help-lines to trace each threat and more... however both central government and state government are sitting silent while people from North East in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad are attacked, threatened and shooed away... and lakhs of people have fled due to threats and incidents of violence/victimization. If the police / intelligence / central agencies treat it as a national security problem-- it wont take them much effort to organize sting operations to collect evidence against specific groups and people threatening NE Indians-- and to then either summarily jail them OR to run court cases OR to ban the groups/freeze their finances.

If you look at it closely, there was no physical activity that happened in Bangalore, It was all a disinformation campaign conducted online. What you suggest in your question will work if there were anyone physically present in Bangalore/Karnataka who perpetrated this. Our police and security personnel are not equipped to handle this type of (dis)information warfare. What makes the situation worse is the low or almost no understanding of the situation among the media and politicians. The event is unprecedented. Knowing India's politicians and bureaucrats - they are capable of only knee-jerk crude reactions ( like the ban on bulk SMS and call for ban on social media). To tell that the police is not doing anything would be unfair. We Indians are now used to immediate trial in the media - with no regard to who is right or wrong. The first step for police is to stop the disinformation campaign. We will not know the extent of success or failure of this through the media - we are not supposed to. The next step is to trace through the thousands of SMS forwards and all other online information to find who was perpetrating the disinformation and identify them from the innocent ones who just shared this information with their friends. As you can imagine this wont be an easy task. Then to collect proof, finally prosecute. There is no use arresting without proof, the police is not even supposed to do that. If you look at how things turned out , this was a well planned and coordinated campaign. Don't buy into the Congress vs BJP vs RSS campaign that everyone is telling it to be. Those who say don't know it any more than you and me. These parties just don't have the expertise needed for this kind of campaign.

Friends, North eastern part of our country has been kept alienated from the rest of the country for years by the government. Also the insurgency has spread like anything in these states. The development of these states has degraded due to this. As a result of this, these states could not add to the GDP of the nation. We , as students, have proposed a solution to fight these problems. http://indiancag.org/manthan/entry/synapse-5 Kindly have a look at the above ppt and vote for us to set the agenda for next year election as the development of north east. Thanking you.

Because taking actions against the culprits may erode their vote banks. Secondly, Indian intellectuals, media and some high profile journalists twist the facts to their needs to be on good books of the Mullahs, they practise a kind of selective secularism and selective liberalism. Even this time they were very restrained in blaming the real culprits. Some of them even tried to blame the RSS and of course our selectively liberal and selectively secular intellectuals and govts always have a soft target in the RSS. If there is a trouble, they would always blame the RSS. This attitude emboldened the real culprits as they know they can get away with murders. I can remind you that Sitaram Kesri blamed the RSS for the Coimbatore bomb blast. So, the real culprits get emboldened. They know that our vote bank hungry politicans won't dare to touch them. But I take this opportunity to thank the RSS for the helping hand they provided for the NE people. Only RSS came to their helps, only RSS provided them solace
