Guinea Pig Bladder Infection?

guinea pig 911!

  • my guinea pig is 3 and was treated for a bladder infection 3 weeks ago and on meds 2 weeks took back to the vet wasn't getting better, he said his bladder felt "spongy" and that he suspects bladder tumor or a stone. that all we can do is keep him comfortable, he says he's not comfortable doing test, or procedures on him becouse of his medical history he thinks that the risk would out weigh the benifit. he is a diabetic, epaleptic with a rare condition that causes bone marrow to be made in his eyes. I would like to know if there is something to do his urine has blood in it and when he pees he cries and almost strains to urinate now when he poops only one comes out at a time and seems small and like dry, but he is eating his salad and pellets and drinking still. any ideas if maybe this is treatable? I started giving him un sweetened cranberry juice I figure can't hurt, since the vet basically says his time is almost up, he is still pretty active too.

  • Answer:

You can seek the advice of another vet to see whether a different diagnosis and treatment can be offered just to know that at least you have covered all your options. This would be helpful as you could discover an experimental drug or procedure for guinea pigs that would help you guinea pig's ailment.

Take him to another vet for a second opinion and if they tell you the same thing then just make him warm, comfortable, and happy so that the rest of his life will be great and good luck.
