Why would you want to become an Event Planner?

If I want to become an event planner (weddings, parties... Etc. ), what are the steps I need to follow to become one ?

  • I'm 17 years old and plan on going to a community college for 2 years , then transferring to good business management university . such as ucsf, ucr, or ucsd. I want to major in business management and get a bachelors degree

    I just got back from intro to public relations and apparently a lot of people in the class are there for event planner. so maybe pr is the way to go?

I like your plan. Get involved in activities in your community, be on the planning committee. Take photos of the event, maybe of some of the preparations (work behind the scenes), save a copy of the flyer, etc. Put these items into a scrap book but very carefully. You want to build a portfolio. Any thank you letters you get, save those too. Little by little you will build your experience and reputation for planning events. That could be anything from a party for children, church picnic, carwash .... anything. It all counts. Take pictures!
