How do I copy and paste a link?

How can one easily copy/paste a shorter Google Images link?

  • Ever since the updated layout the links are so long...(Quora shortens them when I try to copy/paste, but just search for a picture and see for yourself.) Is there a way to get them to be shorter?

    There are a ton of URL shorteners out there you could use without installing any software - but I don't think that is what you wanted. I think you were asking "which parts of the URL Google creates can we safely throw away?" (I'll have to be careful so Quora doesn't shorten my examples.) Ex - an image search for Blue Boats First you have the URL of the website followed by the page (search) www . google . com/search followed by a question mark (?) and the actually search query. Most of it you can safely delete. The part that starts with q= are the search terms - you need them. ?q=blue+boats The only other part you need is the part that starts with &tbm=isch (I think isch means "image search") so that great big ugly url above shortens down to

To efficiently do this in the quickest manner possible you'd have to use a product called Copy Paste Software which allows you to paste url's in which are automatically shortened via Tinyurl or Urly. All you do is selected the copied url that you've copied from a little pop-up window & press CTRL + U to paste the Tinyurl shortened version of the url. The good thing about using this software is that you can also easily paste in things you copied much earlier as it keeps a clipboard history which can easily be accessed with a shortcut key. It makes it easy to retrieve a url or anything else that you copied a few hours ago, even if you've copied many other things to the clipboard since then.
