What is data processing?

What other data-driven text editing, processing and collaborative tools other than DEVONthink are there around?

• DEVONthink is described as a data-driven writing and research tool that is designed for large, robust writing projects: novels, research reports, theses, etc. So far this is as close as I come to finding an open content editor that stores data in a database, focusing on structured processing and organizing data in a database style, yet with great visual non-code impact, getting beyond the painful issues of file formats, file versions and even data formatting. This solves a lot of my problems with duplicate data, orphaned files and unclear versioning of text edits. Yet, I would like to see an even more complex approach to marking/storing text elements into self-declaring database fields (think of the tedious find-and-change content work, if you decide to rename an object or switch to another expression, not only in one document, but in multiple versions and formats!). Are you aware of any similar software or web based solution? And, yeah - it has to be Mac OS X! Don't confuse this solution with common document - content - enterprise management systems. Those usually just try to organize the mess of files allowing for people to collaborate, they don't solve the issue of locked-in content and its sometimes incompatibility.
