What can you do with an AA in Computer Programming or Computer Applications?

What programming languages, post-secondary degrees, or other knowledge would I need to begin building commercial grade BCI (Brain-computer interface) applications?

  • For example, is it better to have a neuroscience degree, with programming experience or CS degree with some neuroscience dabbling? What are the fastest ways to get a foothold in BCI? Is it more important at the current time to focus on research or practical application?

  • Answer:

I am a PhD student working with BCI. My background is in CS, with some neuroscience dabbling. Being a good programmer is a must, but you must also have a firm grasp on the data you're working with. I guess both can be learned so it doesn't matter which of the two background you come from. As far as I know, 'commercial grade' BCIs don't exist apart from some simple games. The best way to gain foothold is ofcourse to write the first BCI 'killer application' that will finally launch the industry. But this is a very tall order. I would honestly recommend going into research.
