Is there an app or a platform to give writers a step by step guide to help them create a book?

  While not by definition a "hold-my-hand-while-I-write" application, a personal favorite of mine is the iPod/iPhone application "A Novel Idea." There are two versions, a free one and the "Pro" version for $2.99. I personally find the free version to my liking. This application has five tabs: Novels, Scenes, Characters, Locations, and Ideas. Each tab lets you add relevant content (like, say, people to your characters tab) and keep exhaustive descriptions of everything. It's a great place to keep all your random ideas while creating your story. It technically doesn't have a place to actually write the story itself, but then again, I think it would be terribly difficult to write on a handheld.
