How does an above ground automatic pool cleaner work?

I have been told that my in-ground swimming pool has iron in it. I was told that chemicals wont work until the iron is gone. Is this true?

  • The iron in the water is from leave accumulated over the winter. The pool is now green.

  • Answer:

Pool supply companies have a chemical for iron ! Get some conditioner as well and put four gallons of chlorine in it. Make sure your filter is clean and run your pump for 24 hours. I've had a pool for twenty years and these steps work great ! Get the CONDITIONER ! Problem solved !

Other answers

It is true that the presence of iron might prevent the chemical that are used to treat the swimming pool from working. You should remove the iron before putting any chemicals. Go to your local pool store with a sample of the water and you will be given the appropriate treatment for the water.
