Can I be a dual citizen?

Can I get dual citizenship with the US and the UK? And if so what are the things I need to do to become a dual citizen?

• I am a US citizen, born and raised here, but much of my family is English and still live in the UK. My grandmother was born in england and my mother has applied for dual citizenship because she would like the option to live there some of the time. My question I guess is that I would like to have the ability to live there and be with my family if my mother decides to move (i don't want to be one of the only people in my family that lives in america) and I would like to have english and american citizenship too, but am I eligible to become a dual citizen as well? And if so how would i go about applying? Should I wait until my mother has achieved dual citizenship before I apply? What are the requirements for me to become a british subject? Would I need to live there? and can people who's parents weren't born in england still get dual citizenship if their parents became british subjects later in their lives?
