Should I put my name on the business bank account?

If my boss wants to put my name on the business bank account so that i can make deposits and sign the payroll checks while he is out of town

Your name isn't needed on the account to make deposits. And you could get a stamp with his name on it, for "signing" checks when he is out of town.

To sign the paychecks you need to be on the account. I was on one as Bookkeeper. The bank personnel said I couldn't be held responsible any debts of the corporation. I imagine that if you knowingly help them commit fraud you may be in trouble anyway, signator or not.

Putting your name as an authorized signatory to a checking account does not make you responsible for the debts of the business. To put your mind at ease, you could get a written statement of the limits of your powers as an agent of the owner, that you are authorized to sign checks for normal business activities but not to undertake any other business. The forms that the bank uses for this basically say this anyway.
