How do I increase my graphics card resolution?

Is there a thunderbolt graphics card for Macbook?

  • What I would like to buy is an thunderbolt VGA card that can increase the graphics performance on a big monitor. The Airs and 13" Pros have a lower performance when connecting to >= 1920x1200 resolution. It would be awesome too if there's a version that can be embedded in the Thunderbolt display.

  • Answer:

Since Thunderbolt emulates a full PCI Express bus, you could theoretically buy a PCI Express to Thunderbolt adapter like this one, and throw a graphics card in there. However, there is no guarantee Mac will support the drivers. http://www.magma.com/thunderbolt/ The Sony Vaio Z also uses Thunderbolt over Fiber-Optics to connect a ATI 6650M in their media dock. http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/28/sonys-new-vaio-z-ultraportable-laptop-with-power-media-dock-han/
