What do they mean when they say it is a set up job?

On LinkedIn, if someone's profile's contact settings say that they are "interested in... job inquiries," what does this mean?

  • Does this mean that they want to hear from people asking for a job, or that they want to hear people who want to give them a job?

  • Answer:

I believe this means that they're interested in hearing from people looking for jobs. There's another option that says "career opportunities" for people looking for work. I agree that the phrasing can be confusing. Realistically, though, these things are mostly meaningless. Most profiles I look at seem to be the same and people don't really updates these based on career state or whether they're hiring.

I agree that it should mean you are interested in hearing from people LOOKING for jobs but you cannot rely on this setting. As Rakesh pointed out, most people do not keep this section up to date and many users just leave the default settings. Some people also prefer to avoid showing their true status to avoid upsetting their present employer. Depending on the person and the culture of the company just saying that you are interested in new opportunities can make the boss think you are not happy where you are.
