How do I become a sponsored snowboarder?

How hard is it to become a pro snowboarder?

  • What is the process if anyone knows? I am honestly interested in know what it takes to become a pro snowboarder so if anyone has some serious info I would love to hear it! Even if its just like getting some free stuff thrown at you!

  • Answer:

I've been snowboarding for a long long time (24th season this year) and have known a bunch of sponsored riders and a few pros. You have to get picked up by sponsors and get exposed to people in the industry either in person or in a video part or in photos. You've got to be a good enough rider that people will take notice of your riding and follow you because that is what the brands want. If you're not riding 100-150 days a year and either rapidly progressing or already have a serious bag of tricks (and you should be upside down in the air a lot) then it's probably a long shot. The other thing is that only a handful of pros make any real money but you can get a lot of travel paid for by sponsors which is pretty cool to do while you're young.

The best thing you can do is start marketing yourself via videos.  Find a friend with a setup as simple as a gopro - if your skills stand out, start sending the video to companies that you think match your style and image.  If they like you, you're on your way

No videos don't really do much at all. Competitions are key. If you live out west there are a shit ton. If you live below Pennsylvania on the east coast it's almost impossible to go pro. But win competitions and you'll get recgonized. Use videos to get your name out there and send it to small companies. My friend has a sponsorship from step child snowboards. Didn't make a video or win 1 of his 12 competitions. However, he just went snowboarding because he loved it and then this spring he went to the launch at 7 springs (even though I'm better then him). But just snowboard because you love to. Start a sponsorship off with your local shop.

Agree with them! If you want to become a pro snowboarder, you should first market yourself like creating your impressive videos. Or exposed yourself in lots of competitions and goal to win always. It's not that easy because it always includes your ability. Before these, make sure that you are competitive enough and everything will turn to it's right place in right time.
