Are there any real differences between a .com and .biz site?

What are the differences between touch.Facebook.com and m.Facebook.com?

  • Is this advantageous enough to maintain two more versions of their site in addition to multiple apps for devices/OSs?

  • Answer:

http://touch.facebook.com is more sophisticated and have more features. It is made mainly for smartphones and touch devices without an application for the specific mobile operating system. It allows viewing your feed, friends profiles, images, commenting and more. The feed in http://touch.facebook.com can show both most recent and top news views like in the full version of http://facebook.com. http://m.facebook.com is styleless version of the site with limited capabilities. It is intended for those with older phones and less powerful mobile browsers. It allows just viewing your feed and commenting on posts. http://m.facebook.com was showing only most recent view before. Now it shows similar visual view like http://touch.facebook.com, but with less functionality.

I tried today with Internet Explorer 10. Screenshot is in the attachment, I recommend you look at it while reading.   Mobile version http://m.facebook.com is more static and less smooth interface. Better for lower battery consumption and weaker hardware, I suppose. If you have Opera Mini, which isn't good with JavaScript, this is very good. Mobile Touch version http://touch.facebook.com  is more dynamic. Easier access to groups and lists (like in full version on the left), more slik interface, etc. You can see these links by clicking the button (white stripes) in top left corner of the page. Warning: Logout button is also in this hidden menu on the bottom! A bad thing if you ask me. Non-touch has fixed width of content, while Touch fils the whole width in IE10. Also, Touch version, at least on Desktop computer in full browser (IE10), automatically loads next batch of posts when you scroll to the bottom. (Look at the attached picture - hope it loads - and see that I captured screenshot while loading.) In non-touch version, posts are paginated and you have to click to see the next page. Note: On my HTC Desire phone, m.facebook.com redirects to Touch version in native browser and Opera 18 for Android 4.x.
