What is a good white label message boards solution for Wordpress?

I'm looking at a message board plugin for Wordpress that includes: - highly customizable frontend (to fit with the look and feel of the rest of the site) - can integrate with non-Wordpress profiles and user identity (i.e. we're not forced to use the board's profile system) - can tag and/or categorize threads - content and user information can be queried through APIs

bbPress (http://bbpress.org) is probably the easiest way to get forum function on your WordPress site. It literally inherits the look of your site upon activation, so it doesn't need to be customized in that respect. It relies heavily on the WordPress core, so I would think it fits the rest of your requirements also.
