E-commerce hosting on Vistaprint: why does the Vistaprint shopping cart require product weights when PayPal calculates the shipping cost based on price ranges?
-
I have recently revamped a website hosted on Vistaprint and installed ecommerce functionality. Vistaprint's website editor does not offer access to the html - only a WYSIWYG interface. E-commerce functionality is a shopping cart based on PayPal Website Payment Standard which is added in by filling in a form - again, there is no access to the code. The shipping cost is added during check-out, and there are 2 options: 1. A flat shipping rate 2. Based on shipping settings in PayPal account Now: the 'based on PayPal' options (which has a link that opens the browser directly on the shipping settings page in PayPal) requires weights to be added for all products. However, in shipping settings in PayPal, the shipping cost can be calculated based on either: 1. A flat shipping rate 2. A percentage of the price 3. A flat rate per price range, where the price ranges can be customised. - So why does the shopping cart require the weights? - Can I trust that the shipping cost will be added correctly to the purchase in PayPal based on price ranges (which is the chosen option), and not the weights? Thank you in advance....

Answer:
OK, since there is no answers and this is a while ago I'll answer it myself... Why: don't know. But: the weight put into the Vistaprint shopping card doesn't affect the shipping calculations in Paypal, so I just added in approximate weights, and that's it... works fine.
