    Here's what we found helpful at one of my previous companies (a smaller startup where most people were not already well-versed in/avid users of social media.) Sharing customer compliments with the team Announcing new customer sales Posting articles about our competitors or top customers Asking (non-urgent) questions that quieter team members were likely to know the answer to. Sharing customer complaints with a call for brainstorming ("how could we improve this?") Announcing mini-milestones in product design and development Sharing user research results I did a lot of the initial "seeding" - though It didn't take long because I'm a product manager and thus a pretty central hub of conversation. We tried to cut back on "where should I go for lunch" type of conversations (I joked that we still needed to have something to say to each other when we were in the kitchen together making our coffees.) I also made a point of "archiving" reference content - sometimes conversations would organically produce a list of competitors, or wishlist features or stats on browser usage, etc., and I'd create a wiki page to save that content.  I think this was critical in encouraging some of our more "old-school" folks to contribute. Also critical was setting an expectation for "responses" -- I made it clear that: Yammer is for optional, not required, conversation.  If you'll be annoyed or inconvenienced by not getting a response, use email instead.
