What is a good replacement for my Chumby as a smart alarm clock?

  • I have a Chumby One. I know it's a much maligned device, but I for one LOVED it. I tried many things for an alarm clock, and the Chumby was the best. What is a good replacement? Required: - it has to be dim-able (I could set my chumby to do this on it's own) - it has to play Pandora as an alarm, and be extensible to additional similar services in the future - it has to have multiple, customizable alarms - This is a big one. It has to be designed to stay in one place. A smart phone is great in theory, but it's not an alarm clock. I want this thing sitting by my bed side, staring me in the face - it has to have an always on face (no clicking to activate) - batter back up. It doesn't need to be portable, just have a back up for when the alarm goes out Nice to haves: - simple interface. My Chumby had to many clicks to do what I wanted. For example, setting the alarm was a 7 step process. - customizable clock face. If I can't have a customizable face, make the clock digital, with a high contrast - preferably not something designed on flash. I am thinking Android is the best bet. Not needed: - Twitter/Weather etc... I will not have a rotating face. It will be an alarm clock and a radio, maybe a digital picture frame Any suggestions?

    The best thing I can seem to find from a quick search is the Archos 35 Home Connect http://www.archos.com/products/ah/archos_35_hc/index.html?country=us&lang=en It looks like it's a Android 2.2 (Froyo) device with a tweaked clock app and stereo speakers built in. It seems to fit all of your requirements. It's a little on the pricey side though at $129.99 MSRP
