Is there any other site like wikipedia?

How does a web site like Wikipedia display time critical content?

  • On the home page of Wikipedia it displays "On this day" which is things that happened on this day.  I'm just curious that for people living say in Australia and people living in US (a huge time difference) would the content be different (I would guess it would be)?  Does the web site check the IP of the viewer then display the appropriate content?  That would imply that everyone would get differnet content, so would it not just be time critical but also location critical?  How do they do it?  What are there preference or considerations?

  • Answer:

'On this day' is part of the main page process, and the changes to that are done at midnight UTC. There isn't any localization or IP targetting for featured content including In The News or On This Day.
