Is there a WYSIWYG equation editor that uses LaTeX code as input?
-
The new equation editor in MS Office accepts limited Tex-like code as input, but it would be nice to include equations into Office documents with 100% LaTeX coding.

Answer:
MathType ( http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/ ) is a commercial interactive equation editor available for Windows and Mac OS X that supports input in (La)TeX format. LaTeXiT ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/math_science/latexit.html ) is a freeware utility for Mac OS X that allows you to typeset individual equations in (La)TeX and drag-and-drop them into other documents (particularly Pages and Keynote documents) whose applications do not have a built-in equation editor.

You are welcome to try http://equationmap.com/ (the online LaTeX Mind Map editor that I created). It's a WYSIWYG latex equation editor and more. You can create MindMaps/Concept Maps of Equations. At the moment it's completely free to use.

MathType could be a solution. However, I suggest Aurora, it renders much better equations because it actually uses LaTeX as the background.

You might want to check out Cassiopeia (http://www.advanced-science.com/ProductsCassiopeia.html). If you need to create formula-intensive documents Office might not be the optimal choice. Hand-coding the complete document in LaTeX is probably too cumbersome. Cassiopeia offers the best of both worlds. It gives you WYSIWYG editing and automatically generates LaTeX code when it comes to printing. See for a demo of using Cassiopeia.
