How is Small Wonder TV series?

What TV series are the most similar to The Wonder Years in terms of sense of humor?

  • The Wonder years had a great sense of introspective humor. The protagonist was also the narrator, and was always self questioning and interpreting things around him in multiple ways. What series have a similar sense of humor?

  • Answer:

One show that is quite similar in the way it captures the feel of a specific time, is "Freaks and Geeks". It's very different in its sense of humor and pace but it is about kids in high school in the 80's and is very true to the time period.

Boy Meets World has the same premise as The Wonder Years. Coming of age sitcom; protagonist is an average kid in the suburbs; goofy older brother; lifelong girlfriend type; lifelong best friend. And, to top it off, the protagonist in Boy Meets World (Ben Savage) is the real life younger brother of the protagonist in The Wonder Years (Fred Savage). That being said, Boy Meets World is not nearly as good as Wonder Years. It takes place in a less interesting era (90s instead of 60s/70s) and the characters are not as interesting.

There were two unsuccessful attempts to "duplicate" the Wonder Years: The Marshall Chronicles and My Life and Times. I've never found anything exactly like it. I hope Marlens and Black make another comedy soon, though.
