Why might Android fail to live up to Google's strategic aim of becoming the Windows of our mobile future?

• Android the OS is activating 300K devices a day (growth mainly coming from Asia [China]). Great, so is Symbian and iOS. Fortune (http://bit.ly/ejLOu8) wants us to believe that Android will explode in 2011, relegating iOS to a niche status like Windows did in the PC wars. The problem with this is that it is not the 1990s, Apple is now by value the number one tech company in the world. iOS is as big as Google and will soon pass Google in both revenues and profits. Apple is not going to let Android run away with the market. The dynamics are also very different than they were in the 1990s, there is WP7 and Microsoft will support that OS and see it being number 3 or 2. There is Symbian and Nokia has the biggest distribution network of any vendor, Blackberry OS is still growing at +40% a quarter, WebOS backed by a $100 Billion turnover company, HP and the carriers. The carries do not want any platform to have more than 50% share of the sales/subscribers as that might risk control. The is no killer software that is exclusive to a platform. The only argument for Android is price and that is not exclusive to Android. The assumption that Android OS will just run away with the market is at best arrogant.

  It is the windows of mobile. RIM is failing. HP made webOS open source due to no income and Nokia is out of the top five manufactures, therefore killing symbian. iOS is slowly reducing. Android is the leading operating system. This, my friend, is the proof.
