How can I rejoin a network on Facebook?

How can I use Facebook Connect data on an ad network?

  • If I manage an ad network and all of the sites use facebook connect, can I use that data to serve ads?  Because I'm an ad network and the sites within it capture open graph data and give it to me to help target ads more effectively? Facebook's TOS says - You will not directly or indirectly transfer any data you receive from us, including user data or Facebook User IDs, to (or use such data in connection with) any ad network, ad exchange, data broker, or other advertising or monetization related toolset, even if a user consents to such transfer or use. By indirectly we mean you cannot, for example, transfer data to a third party who then transfers the data to an ad network. By any data we mean all data obtained through use of the Facebook Platform (API, Social Plugins, etc.), including aggregate, anonymous or derivative data.

  • Answer:

I've worked on a number of these with some big media companies. Basically, the safest way to do it is to never pass the data to the ad network. Have the ad network tell the site which demographics or target segments you wish to fill, and let the site's CRM or targeting database decide which of their users to target. This is how most of my customers got around it. There are, of course, some challenges to this with smaller companies that don't have sophisticated CRM.
