Since it seems like some of our current technology like the robotics, space exploration, genetic engineering, or the ease of communication through the internet and cell phones have roots in science fiction like Jules Verne and Isaac Asimov, what current science fiction is really pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas rather than rehashing the same cliches?

Answer:
Microbiotic-based science fiction is not really re-hashing stuff. For works on that check Octavia Butler and Greg Bear. Artificial, quickly made copies of you. Check Kiln People by David Brin. Biometric Personal Ad, as seen in the movie Minority Report E-Paper products, like newspapers (also Minority Report) Personal Recording (life blogging). Seen in Hominids (Neanderthal Parallax) and Snow Crash. Surveillance Drones, in Darwin's Children Genetically modified animals to be chore specific helpers. Variety of sources. Computers in clothes, contact lens, other sources that are practically implants. Variety of sources. AR glasses (almost a real thing, thanks to Google). Instant DNA scans (Gattica and others).

I'd say anything far removed from space travel. Early scifi focused on the gee-whiz, world of the future envisioned in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. That meant everyday technologies like aircraft and submarines, and later, space travel. The more mondane stuff was soon outmoded by reality. Space became the final frontier. Today's most cutting edge scifi often draws from other fields, bio-tech, nano-tech, sociology, etc.
