I'd say anything far removed from space travel. Early scifi focused on the gee-whiz, world of the future envisioned in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. That meant everyday technologies like aircraft and submarines, and later, space travel. The more mondane stuff was soon outmoded by reality. Space became the final frontier.
