After the upgrade, the Tumblr iPhone app won't let me embed Youtube videos from my phone - is there a workaround?
-
I have always used the Tumblr iPhone app for only one thing: posting videos, that I have uploaded to Youtube earlier myself. I was very surprised to find that Tumblr removed the option to embed Youtube videos when they released a new version of the iOS app. Now I have to involve a desktop computer in my workflow, which sort of ruins everything. So what I want to do is to create a Tumblr video post (with the video embedded) from my iPhone 4 by just entering the Youtube URL. Is this possible via some kind of workaround? E-mailing the link? Using a third-party Tumblr app? Any help would be really appreciated. I have done some searching myself, and tried a few workarounds (like creating draft posts with embedded video on the computer, and then editing them in the phone) but to no avail. Tried the official channel, but the Tumblr support guys sent me some laughable super-lazy template replies, making it clear that they didn't even spend ten seconds reading my question, so I turn to you.

Answer:
There is a way to do this. First, go to YouTube in the Safari Browser. (not the YouTube App). Find the video you want. You will probably default to the mobile version of YouTube. You want the desktop browser version of YouTube so you can use the Share button to get the embed code. To get to the desktop version, scroll down to the bottom and click Desktop. Click the Share Button. Then click the Embed button. Select All and Copy the embed code. Now go to the Tumblr App. Click the button at the bottom right to start a new post. Choose the one at the top left that says Aa Text. Type a title and at least a little bit of regular text in the input area. Then Paste the embed code into the input area. Finally click Publish. ( I noticed that if I pasted the embed code with no regular text, it did not work.) Good luck.

There isn't currently a workaround for this but it's certainly a feature we'd like to support in the futrue.
