Why doesn't Strava use Facebook, Gmail, or other social tools/address book imports to allow you to find other friends using the product?

Answer:
Strava surface some of these options (Twitter and Facebook), but only after linking your accounts. See http://app.strava.com/dashboard/facebook_share - you'd get to this by linking your Facebook account to Strava, and we enabled this on first log in after we added the functionality. If you unlink and re-link your Twitter account, you should see a list of Twitter users that you're following on Twitter but not currently following on Strava.
