A lot of people were excited about the 80's to revitalize the music that had gotten stale in the 70's.  It's in retrospect that lots of 70's bands that are fondly remembered.  So, I'll start by mentioning the worst of the 70's, followed by some better stuff.  Again, not all of these bands were actually good, but they helped define the 70's. Some of the worst Easy Listening songs Feelings - Morris Albert Send in the Clowns - several artists Playground In My Mind - Clint Holmes You Light Up My Life - Debby Boone Love Will Keep Us Together - The Captain and Tenille Easy Listening (bands) Chuck Mangione Harry Chapin Gordon Lightfoot Bread Pop The Osmonds The Jackson 5 The Bay City Rollers Blondie Three Dog Night Stevie Wonder ABBA Disco Donna Summer The Village People KC and the Sunshine Band The Bee Gees Boney M Disco was a weird time that briefly sucked in Kiss, Rod Stewart and other top acts as well as porn star Andrea True.  A lot of the other musical styles have already been mentioned (and better artists like: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rush, Pink Floyd, B.T.O, etc.), so I won't repeat them here.

The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones and Stooges. These bands spiced up the 70's and got away from the norm and gave the music industry a breath of fresh air.
