Can you play tennis for free in New York city?

What is the best way for a beginner to learn tennis in New York City?

  • Looking for good tennis lesson programs, or a decent private teacher

  • Answer:

There are a number of ways to start.  Ask for Jason Spiers at Roosevelt Island Racquet Club or any of the pros at Central Park Tennis to start on some lessons.  Then just get out there and practice.  The best thing to do is hit against any backboard just to get moving and practice your strokes.  Have fun.

Hey there! Check out Oscar Wegner's Modern Tennis Methodology (MTM): http://www.tennisteacher.com/ I am not sure if you can find any coaches who knows this method in NYC, but if you do, you'll be able to play tennis even after your first lesson! I have invested in thousands of dollars and hours into learning how to play Tennis. I was on the verge of giving up on learning the sport because I could not play it very well after all the investment. Then, I met a coach who taught me the MTM method, and in 5 months of playing, I am good enough to play in competitions. This is not an exaggeration of MTM. It truly works. Give it a shot! Enjoy! :D

NYC is a great place to start playing tennis and the best way is the same as for learning anything - a lot of practice. My advice - pickup as many games as possible, play a lot, switch courts and with some time you'd not recognize yourself. For a start, I'd personally recommend Walker Park Tennis Club http://trytopic.com/walker-park-tennis-club  on Staten Island. No crowd, reasonable fees, very friendly community who'll be willing to help with an advice.

It doesn't matter what state you are in,you are going to have to do some research first. Goggle can help, but always ask for a sample lesson, so you can see what you are getting for your money. You may need to go through 3 clubs too, until you can find the one you want to learn at. Take your time and find a coach that has a passion for teaching. If they don't,keep looking until you find one. Hope that helps.

HI, there are some tennis coaches in here http://newyork.tennistonic.com/pg/tennis/Find-a-tennis-coach/?id=12125&%2FNew+York-New+York-United+States You may give it a try also at the tennis schoool in central park. Or  http://bumblebeetennis.com is also good and unexpensive

I've been taking lessons with Bumble Bee Tennis http://bumblebeetennis.com/ Relatively cheap and great so far; I'm having a lot of fun! (3 weeks in) Intro to tennis group lessons are roughly $28 / hr in Manhattan. Private lessons are $100 an hour. This is a little high so I'm still looking around for something a little lower for private lessons.
