Oh great, a chance for me to rave about Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. The first single I ever bought which wasn't already in the charts and which none of my friends had heard of was Electricity (I bought the Factory Records version with the 'Braille' cover which is worth a mint now - and sold it a couple of years later, d'oh). OMD had the thing which makes a truly great band - they were experimental and weird, but also totally Pop and completely accessable. They remain terminally uncool, but that's just the hipster's loss. Here are a few examples of what makes them great, but just get the first four albums and you cannot go wrong:
