In the past, it was easy to win the Nobel Prize but as the time passes it become hard and harder to win it. Just focus on on the things that make you happy and satisfied. Do not start your career with the thought to win the Nobel prize. To win theĀ  Nobel Prize first choose a field where there are more chances of Nobel Prize like in medicine choose Genetics and in Physics it is Atomic and Particle Physics. Do Ph.d in subjects related to these fields. Be curious about learning and ask a lot of questions. Make sure Nobel prize is awarded to maximum 3 persons so start your research with maximum 3 persons and leave the rest on the God.

If you want to win the Nobel prize then try to explain scientifically and mathematically the properties of dark matter and dark energy. Or at least give a possible theory to explain them because the theory of subatomic particles cannot it an plus it is off by 10^120. That is a field rich in possible prizes.

I have been searching answer for this question too. There are about 800 Nobel prize winners(excluding peace) and among them about 600 are in science. There are less than 50 inventors with more than 500 http://patents.So becoming an inventor with more than 500 patents is more difficult than winning Nobel http://prize.In order to win Nobel in science one has to make groundbreaking discovery/invention and then it's upon to the judgement of 5 persons of Royal Sweedish Academy.
