    As a starting point, try David Meerman Scott's The New Rules of Marketing And PR (John Wiley & Sons).  It's packed with case histories, links and references.  Don't be concerned by the 'PR'  in the title, either; online, your PR and marketing efforts should meld together as seamlessly as possible. Scott's blog at http://www.webinknow.com is worth following, too, even if it's not quite as incisive as it used to be. Don't lose sight of the fact that ''marketing is marketing''.  That is, it's more important to understand the core principles of marketing and be able to apply these competently via the new online channels than it is to have a sophisticated understanding of those channels without the marketing nous to capitalise on the potential they offer. So it's a good idea to read some traditional marketing textbooks, too.
