What is a marketing channel?

What are the financial and marketing differences between VOD distribution and a channel like Showtime or Chiller TV showing your film in a regular time slot?

  • My micro-budget horror feature, Wake the Witch, had a VOD deal last summer, now I'd like to see if I could get it on late night Showtime or Chiller TV.  The VOD deal paid per viewing, would a regular time slot pay a lump sum?  Would a schedule on a cable channel reach a wider audience but make less money?

  • Answer:

We don't have a sales agent or producer's rep. I've always been concerned that both would cost more money than I could afford.  But if you know someone that I could start a dialogue with (jargon! yay!) I'd be all about that.  Yes, please.  I haven't thought of a second engagment for VOD, didn't actually think that'd be possible.  I'll have to check that out, see how long our contract with our first company was for.  Thanks for the heads up on the Pixovi MN!

Other answers

It is typically a single lump payment. The amt of pymt and the size of the audience is relative to the slot and network. Is your VOD deal still active or was it only for a time period ? Did you have other ancillary deals? This performance would weigh into the size of possible option price.
