How can one select a user profile on a different drive in windows 7?

It's possible to have windows create user accounts on a drive other than C: so they'll be protected in the event something happens to C:. If you're forced to reformat windows, how can you tell the new installation to use these profiles?

Yes It Is Possible. Just Need To Edit Registry. Open Registry Editor Using "Regedit" From Run Dialogue Box Go To HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList Now Open ProfilesDirectory Can See Right Side Give Path In Value Data Field Where You Wants To Save Users Profile For EX. Here I Am Set "D:\Users"OK And Exit.Note: It Will Be Work On Next New Generated Profiles Or Who Login First Time In System After We Set Profile Path. it Means It Will Not Work On current user Profile For Current user Setting See Next Steps.Current User Is "Chetan" Default Profile Location Is "C:\Users" Take Profile's Data Backup Such As desktop,documents etc.. before next step Now Login With Different User Which have Administrator Rights. If You Wants To Move Administrator Account Profile Then Create Different User With Administrator Membership/Rights.Copy User's Entire Profile. Here I Am Copy "Chetan" Named Folder From Default Location Where Is "C:\Users" And Past It Where You Wants To Move Here i Am Moving it to "E:\Users"After Copying Entire Profile Edit Users Registry From HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\ Check All Long Named Folder Stop Where You See Your Named Folder Double Click And Edit ProfileEmagePath Give Profile Path At Value Data Field. Here I Am Giving "E:\Users\Chetan"OK And ExitNow Login With Your User Who We Moved Profile. Here I Am Login With "chetan" it is helpful for me. Same Process Follow In Win8,8.1 And Win 10 Enjoy..

I don't think you can get Windows to automatically put new profiles to different drive, but you can go into C:\Users\%username % and right click folders such as Desktop, Documents, Downloads etc, then under location chose another location. Then if you do reinstall Windows go through the process again to point these directories to their new homes.
