How do I download video from my Sony video camera to my computer?

Home video editing: How can I download to my computer?

  • Can anyone advise how (or if) I can transfer tape-based video from my Sony TRV110E camera to my computer. Outputs from the camera include two audio and one video cable sockets, one S video socket and one DVout. However computer inputs include only USB2 ports, one eSATA and one HDMI port. I have tried using a Pinnacle Dazzle Platinum device to download content to Serif's Movie Plus X3 software via a USB without success. Can anyone offer advice please. I have been trying to find an answer for a couple of years now?

  • Answer:

The best option is to use the DV out, but you need an i-link or your PC. Many laptops do have i-link inputs, so ask around. Since you have already one video capture card, you need to use the best common denominator , in this case S-video. Or simply take your DV tape to a video transfer shop and ask them to do a DV transfer

I agree with the advice to take all your tapes to a video transfer specialist. They will get everything digitised at better quality than you are likely to achieve, and it saves you a time consuming job. If you have a lot of video get them to put it straight on to an external hard drive as they are cheap now.
