In Music & Lyrics there were two songs closely fitting the story line. Were they tailor-made when the original screenplay was written, or done after the movie was already in shape, or initially composed as independent songs and later adjusted for the movie?

Great film and music, wasn't it?  I was really surprised at Hugh Grant's surprisingly on-key singing voice.  He also played some basic piano in the film, as well.  Pretty impressive, considering he's neither a singer nor musician.
