How to allow user to use my app?

Can I use the AppleID that's stored on IOS device, and use that as a login to an app, instead of FB Connect, OpenId, etc...?

  • Basically, apps on IOS requires someone to register or use FB Connect, etc...can I just use the AppleID on the IOS device to basically be the automatic login? This way, if user downloads an app, they open it, automatically registered and logged in using AppleId?   Does Apple even allow to get certain info using AppleId, like Name, email and zip?

  • Answer:

No, Apple ID and Facebook are not interoperable authentication schemes. Even Apple apps on iOS (Game Center, Find My iPhone, etc) require users to re-enter their Apple ID every time. With the new oauth-based framework implemented in to support OS-level integration there's a possibility that Apple will eventually allow other providers to integrate with the OS, presumably including their own Apple ID. Once this happens then the user will enter their details for each service once (in Settings.app) and they are then available to all iOS apps via a built-in framework.
