Jobs in Information Technology: I have 12 years of experience in software testing, and have a ISTQB Foundation certificate. Will there be a demand for testing guys in the future?

And for the past 5 years, I have been reading some good books on Creativity, Innovation, IT Strategy, Business Strategy, Successful Business Plans, Marketing etc. Is there any alternative job for me, can I switch my career to something else (from Testing) based on my knowledge and insight in the above said areas. Please advise.

Answer:
Software testing is a specialization for software engineers. Since the demand for software engineers is growing, so as the demand for software engineers specializing in automated testing. Testability is one of the requirement categories, which shape the whole system architecture. This area connects business model, operational model and software development processes. Software testing is actually pretty good area to be in to understand the big picture of the system really well. At the same time, I, personally, against keeping people in narrow specialization area. I believe that software development organization should provide opportunities for people to explore different areas. An engineer should try their talents in different areas of specialization. Based on your question, it seems you are thinking about switching into some other profession. Most definitely, one should find what (s)he LOVES to do. If you have opportunities to explore other areas, definitely find what you love to do. At the same time, I would still preserve the investment into software engineering background, you have. This profession is here to stay and prosper.

What are the key steps that you took in order to take an ISTQB certification and how did it benefit you in your day-to-day work as well as did you get any financial gains/offers as well as quicker resume selection over other candidates because of this certification ? To answer your question, no software can live without testers and QA(Manual as well as Automation) is here to stay
