Can MICROS' POS integrate with 3rd party applications?

Answer:
Yes, if you want to spend $25k for their SDK and 12-18 months in their product approval pipeline. The large companies (NCR and Micros) are monolithically slow because of their size. They just have so much other stuff to deal with handling relatively small integrations is not a huge urgency. You are better trying to work with other POS vendors who are more open with their technologies.

Austin based startup SubtleData just created a Twilioesque API platform that integrates with all the major POS systems for $0-$89 a month. Their service allows you to develop your app while they worry about the physical link to each brand of POS so you don't have to put all your eggs in Micros' basket. http://www.subtledata.com

As Chadwick mentioned above SubtleData is a great choice to easily and cost effectively integrate with major POS systems. I have experiencing trying to integrate with Micros it wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be you just have to be persistent with them for a response on the status of you application. Also you have to pay Micros per product integration i.e pay for the api for Symphony, Res, and E7 separately, so it can get expensive. When I tried to integrate with Aloha or any NCR POS product I was almost instantly rejected by them so it didn't seem like they were too interested guess it depends a lot on what you plan on doing once you integrate. A lot of the smaller restaurant Pos systems were fairly friendly and approachable about integrating with them.

Zuldi enables POS Integrated Mobile and Web Ordering and Payment Processing. Zuldi acts as middleware for companies that lack POS integration and payments are processed by Zuldi's gateway. Zuldi has a Mobile POS system that integrates with Micros 3700RES. Subtle-Data has shut down all operations.

If you'd like to avoid the pain of integration, and have other POS systems instantly available too, try Omnivore's API. http://omnivore.io

Micros POS is an outdated and massive company. Whatever updates they might make will take forever. You are much better off using a cloud based POS system like Bindo https://bindopos.com/?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=comments&utm_content=quoracomments107&utm_campaign=quoracomments107. Bindo can integrate with 3rd party applications extremely easily due to its size and its biweekly software updates. They also have a 24/7 customer support that is super helpful. You should check them out here : https://bindopos.com/?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=comments&utm_content=quoracomments107&utm_campaign=quoracomments107

I can't speak for all the Micros systems but I do know that the Micros 3700 systems do have an API which allows http://orders2.me/ (& other 3rd party software vendors) to integrate directly. However, in order for a 3rd party to integrate into a Micros 3700 system then that system must have an "API transaction services" license attached to it.

The answer is YES and the company is Simplicity POS. Through Simplicity POS, you could enable your customers to make payments directly into the POS (i.e. Micros, Aloha, etc) remotely, and also connect users to the actual sales of the restaurants. We offer a powerful cloud based API that enables third parties to integrate to POS systems for cloud facing mobile/web based payment, ordering and data consumption through our patent-pending platform. I got a mail from SubtleData that they are closed. Did Micros sue them? Is there an alternative? We have our system http://www.eRestro.com which we are trying to integrate with Micros.
