Where can I make a video intro online?

Video Editing: How can I make "Apple OS X intro"-like text and animation?

  • I'm looking for a way to make "Apple OSX intro"-like text and animations, how can this be done in like Sony Vegas?

  • Answer:

I'm not sure that Vegas Pro is the appropriate tool for that job. Vegas appears to be a non-linear video editor, built for the task of cutting existing video together, applying transitions, massaging audio and the like. While it may provide some canned title styles, you're asking for something with a lot more sophistication. Apple's OS X intro screen was likely built with some combination of a motion graphics editor and a 3D modeling/rendering app. So, to get the custom-animated, motion-blurred, three-dimensional, styled text you're seeing there, at a minimum you'll need something like After Effects or Motion. http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects.html http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/motion/

and are correct - Vegas is not really the right tool for the job, After Effects is the highly competent default for this kind of stuff, I'd add that Apple's Motion would also make short work of this. http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/motion/ Creative Cow is the best place to go for advice, and most likely tutorials, on a massive variety of motion graphics, animation and visual effects. http://www.creativecow.net/ http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/ Their forums are super active and full of top notch professionals, it's a treasure trove of knowledge.

In my opinion, After Effects is the best tool to use to make professional animated text. You can purchase stock templates from online marketplaces like videohive and revostock that you can customize to achieve great looking results, comparable to the OSX intro text. The advantage is in the variety of styles, the high quality templates and low prices, and of course complete customizability and support. You can download a fully functional 30 day trial from Adobe, which should give you enough time to play around with a template and see how you feel about it and most likely even finish your video before the trial expires (if not within minutes). If you are interested in templates, I recommend http://videohive.net - their prices are more than fair and the community is very friendly and always ready to answer questions. I am a template author there. I invite you to take a look at my growing portfolio as well as the many other talented folks over there (although I don't do text animations, but others do and it is very popular on that site) : http://videohive.net/user/andrenavarre?ref=andrenavarre I hope that this was helpful!
